Charleston County Economic Development Launches its Job Development Incentive (JDI)

Charleston County Economic Development is excited to launch its Job Development Incentive (JDI),  a new program to support business growth and strengthen the region’s overall economic competitiveness. 

Designed to encourage high‑quality job creation, raise wages, and reduce commercial vacancies, the JDI program fills important gaps left by existing county and state incentives. 

What is JDI? 

The JDI program helps both new and existing companies in Charleston County by:

  • Reducing hiring and training costs
  • Supporting expansion plans
  • Strengthening workforce quality
  • Improving long‑term productivity
What is the Incentive?

Eligible companies can receive $1,000 for every new qualifying job created, with a minimum of five new jobs required to participate. 

Who Qualifies?

Jobs interested in applying must meet the following criteria:

  • Be either a new or relocating company or an existing industry that is looking to expand 
  • Pay at or above Charleston County per-capita income (currently $90,550/year)  
  • Be in a targeted sector (manufacturing, tech, life science, defense, aerospace, etc.) 
How to Apply

Companies interested in participating must submit an application to Charleston County Economic Development.

  • There is no cost to apply
  • Incentive payments are issued after proof of qualifying new hires
