Charleston Coffee Roasters expanding operations in Charleston County

Charleston Coffee Roasters, a craft coffee roasting company, today announced plans to expand operations in Charleston County. The $2.2 million investment will create 28 new jobs.

Founded in 2005, Charleston Coffee Roasters sources premium coffees from around the world, slow-roasts each batch to perfection, and delivers a uniquely rich “Charleston” coffee experience in every cup.

Located at 7246 Stall Road in North Charleston, Charleston Coffee Roasters’ expansion will increase the company’s capacity to meet growing demand. The growth plan includes adding 21,600 square feet of production space to house new roasters, grinders, and packaging equipment.

New Airline, Breeze Airways, lands at Charleston International Airport with 11 new destinations

CHARLESTON, S.C. – America’s newest airline, Breeze Airways, today unveiled its debut network, comprising 39 nonstop routes between 16 cities in the Southwest, Midwest, Southeast and Eastern U.S. Charleston is among the airline’s first destinations and Charleston International Airport will receive Breeze’s inaugural flight on May 27.

The first flights will operate between Charleston, SC, Tampa, FL and Hartford, CT, with remaining destinations to be added each week through July 2021.

From Charleston, Breeze will offer service to 11 markets, seven of which are new for Charleston International:

Breeze will operate 13 single-class Embraer aircraft this summer, flying routes with an average flight length under two hours.  The ten E190 jets will be configured to seat 108 Guests while the three E195 aircraft will have 118 seats.  Breeze also has ordered 60 brand new Airbus A220 aircraft that will be delivered one per month for five years, starting in October this year.

CHARLESTON DIGITAL CORRIDOR LAUNCHES CDCu EDUCATION INITIATIVE AT NEW FLAGSHIP

In conjunction with the opening of the Flagship @ the Charleston Tech Center, the Charleston Digital Corridor has developed a tech-focused community learning center and is consolidating its previous talent and education offerings under a single brand – The Charleston Digital Corridor University or CDCu.

CDCu is a series of business seminars, technical workshops and talks presented by Charleston-area experts and tech entrepreneurs. CDCu will be hosted at the Flagship @ Charleston Tech Center. Each education offering is focused on practical and immediately actionable topics in three series: Business, Technology and Entrepreneurship.

All CDCu offerings are tailored toward small businesses and local professionals in the region and are vetted by a curriculum review/advisory team of proven leaders with a passion for education.
“So much in business is about getting the right advice and working with the right partners. Being able to network with and learn from other successful companies and founders is what excites me most about CDCu”, said Jonathan Yantis, QuicksortRx Co-founder and CEO.

Ashley M. Richardson Graduates from OU EDI

Ashley Richardson, Director of Strategy and Communications for Charleston County Economic Development, graduated from the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute on April 29, 2021, at the OU EDI Spring session.

OU EDI is an intensive 117-hour certificate program that provides a broad spectrum of advanced education for the economic development professional.

OU EDI Dean Mark James said, “OU EDI is the premier organization dedicated to training economic development professionals. These graduates represent some of the finest economic development practitioners in the U.S. working to support their local communities. My congratulations to them.”

Charleston County Economic Development Executive Director Steve Dykes commended Richardson in her efforts, stating, “continuing education ensures a high standard of professional service and quality here in Charleston County. We want our community to know that we are always seeking to enhance our knowledge base and competency to encourage Charleston County’s growth and vibrancy.”

OU EDI classes focus on three major core areas including: Business Retention and Expansion, Real Estate, and Credit Analysis, as well as areas of concentration in Marketing, Strategic Planning, Entrepreneurship, and Managing Economic Development Organizations. Students typically take 1-2 years to complete the program through a series on intensive in-person or online courses.

Beginning in 1962, OU EDI is celebrating its 59th year of service to the economic development community. Fully accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the program has trained nearly 6,000 professionals and remains the world’s leading economic development teacher.

Richardson has been with Charleston County Economic Development since 2016. She was previously with The Town of Mount Pleasant and has 13 years of economic development experience. She has a BS degree in Marketing from The University of Alabama and an MBA from The Citadel Graduate College.

Bourne Group expanding operations in Charleston County

Bourne Group, an industry leader in the manufacturing and installation of marine signage, today announced plans to expand operations in Charleston County. The $3.7 million investment will create 43 new jobs.

Founded in 2007, Bourne Group has built a portfolio ranging from maritime safety signs to full-service capabilities for the cruise and commerce shipping industries. With its U.S. headquarters based in Charleston, Bourne Group also has an international presence in the Netherlands.

Moving to a new facility located at 301 Ports Authority Drive in Mount Pleasant, Bourne Group’s expansion will house operations for leading-edge printing, digital cutting, CNC routing, as well as logistics project management, sales and design.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project. Charleston County was also awarded a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to assist with costs related to this project.

M.C. Dean, Inc. expanding operations in Charleston County

M.C. Dean, Inc., a global cyber-physical systems integration and engineering company, today announced plans to expand operations in Charleston County. The $7.3 million investment will create 126 new jobs.

With a presence in South Carolina for over 25 years, M.C. Dean, Inc. designs, builds, operates and maintains cyber-physical solutions for mission-critical facilities, secure environments, complex infrastructure and global enterprises. The company specializes in electrical, electronic security, audio visual, information technology, telecommunications, life safety, automation and command and control systems.

Located in the Remount Business Park in North Charleston, M.C. Dean, Inc. is constructing a new 25,000-square-foot facility which will service its defense, technology, manufacturing and healthcare customers.  The new facility will provide space for additional offices, engineering, simulation, testing labs and warehousing. Featuring open interior and exterior work, collaboration and recreation spaces, the facility will promote employee health, wellness and sustainability.

Mercedes-Benz Vans building next generation eSprinter in Charleston County

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC, a part of the global Mercedes-Benz Vans production network, announced plans to build the next generation eSprinter van in Charleston County. The company will invest around $59 million.

Based on a new Electric Versatility Platform announced at the end of 2020, the next generation of the eSprinter targets new customer segments and markets, including the USA and Canada. The eSprinter van will be built in three locations: North Charleston, Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde in Germany.

Located at 8501 Palmetto Commerce Park in North Charleston, Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC assembles the world’s leading large van – the Sprinter. The company has operated its current van assembly operations in North Charleston since 2006 and has assembled more than 200,000 Sprinter and Metris vans and delivered them across the United States.

T-Mobile to expand operations in Charleston County

T-Mobile US, Inc. (NASDAQ: TMUS) (T-Mobile), one of the largest wireless network operators in the country, will expand its operations in Charleston County. The $10.2 million investment in its Customer Experience Center will create up to 540 new jobs, bringing the Charleston County location to a total of approximately 1,540 full-time employees.

Headquartered in Bellevue, Wash., T-Mobile delivers a large and fast nationwide 5G network that offers reliable connectivity for customers. Through its award-winning Team of Experts service model, T-Mobile offers customers a dedicated team of highly trained experts based on location, a critical piece of its Un-Carrier strategy – allowing the company to deliver a high-quality customer care experience.

T-Mobile’s decision to expand its customer care team in the region is a testament to the quality of Charleston County’s talent and resources, and an investment in the company’s commitment to providing high quality customer care.

Located at 8571 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, T-Mobile expanded its Customer Care Center by 44,350 square feet to accommodate the company’s growing customer care team.

Omatic Software expanding operations in Charleston County

Omatic Software, a data integration company, announced plans to expand operations in Charleston County. The $450,000 investment will create approximately 100 new jobs over the next five years.

Founded in 2002, Omatic Software provides data health and integration solutions for nonprofits by democratizing data access and insight. The company services thousands of nonprofit organizations with innovative integration solutions to eliminate manual processes and provide up-to-date and complete data.

Located at the Portside Ferry Wharf in Mount Pleasant, Omatic Software’s expansion will serve as the company’s corporate headquarters and will be its main hub for software research and development, as well as sales and operations. Ray-Mont Logistics establishing operations in Charleston County

Ray-Mont Logistics, a fully integrated logistics company, today announced plans to establish operations in Charleston County. The more than $16 million investment will create 85 new jobs.

Established in 1992 in Montreal, Canada, Ray-Mont Logistics serves as a one-stop shop​ for a variety of logistical needs and enhances the customer experience on a global scale.

Located at 1000 Remount Road in North Charleston, Ray-Mont Logistics’ new facility will increase the company’s capacity and logistical capabilities to better serve its clients.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project. Charleston County was also awarded a $750,000 Set-Aside grant to assist with costs related to this project.
