Choate Construction expands regional headquarters operations in Mount Pleasant

At today’s groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gateway Mount Pleasant office building, the Town of Mount Pleasant announced that Choate Construction will expand its Mount Pleasant-based regional headquarters. The Choate expansion is anticipated to result in the addition of 20 high-quality jobs and an approximate $1 million capital investment.  The company will relocate to the Gateway Mount Pleasant office building which is being constructed at 235 Magrath Darby.

“With nearly fifty-percent of employees living within the Town, Choate Construction is exactly the type of company we would like to see locate and expand in Mount Pleasant, putting high-quality jobs in close proximity to our residents, while diversifying our tax base with corporate headquarters operations,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie.

Choate Construction’s Mount Pleasant office has served as its company’s statewide headquarters for the past 16 years and currently boasts 45 employees.

“After considering several relocation options throughout the tri-county area, we determined that expanding our footprint in Mount Pleasant was the right decision. We are blessed to have been a part of the Mount Pleasant community for a long time, and this is where most of our employee owners live, work, and play. Selecting the Gateway development for our future home was also an easy decision. The location, views and overall value are unmatched in the Charleston market,” said Matthew Brewer, Vice President, Choate Construction.

Located at the base of the Ravenel Bridge, the Gateway Mount Pleasant is a 62,000 SF Class-A office building being developed by Landmark Enterprises and Durlach Associates. This new office building will provide Mount Pleasant with a prime location for its target economic development companies upon its completion in October 2018.

“Landmark has long viewed the Gateway site as a vital location for economic development, and has master-planned it for this purpose. Breaking ground on the Gateway office building is the result of years of hard work and planning by our entire team, rooted in the vision of Landmark’s Founder Gene Blanton who has been responsibly developing and preserving land in Mount Pleasant since the early 1970s.”  – Jason Ward, President, Landmark Enterprises

“With approximately 97% occupancy, the Mount Pleasant office sub-market is currently the strongest in the greater Charleston area.  Gateway’s highly accessible and central location near the Ravenel Bridge and in close proximity to East Cooper and Downtown amenities provides companies an advantage in attracting Charleston’s top talent.” – Marcus R. Durlach, IV, President Durlach Associates

“With its commanding position at the base of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, Gateway will be the most visible and accessible multi-tenant office building in Mount Pleasant and perhaps the entire Charleston area.” – John Durlach, Broker-in-Charge, Durlach Associates

“The construction of Gateway Mount Pleasant will bring highly desirable Class A office space to a coveted area of Charleston County. The efforts to attract premier tenants has already been realized with the announcement of Choate Construction’s regional headquarters. We congratulate Choate, Landmark Enterprises and Durlach Associates on this exciting endeavor.” – Charleston County Council Chairman Victor Rawl
