Alpha Sheet Metal Works expands Charleston County operations

Alpha Sheet Metal Works, a metal fabricator, today announced it is expanding its operations in Charleston County. The company’s $3.7 million investment will create 14 new jobs.

With more than 80 years of experience, Alpha Sheet Metal Works specializes in steel, stainless steel and aluminum metal products. The company’s products range from individual parts to complete automated assemblies.

Alpha Sheet Metal Works will add 24,000 square feet next to its existing facility, located at 9525 Hamburg Road in Ladson, to increase its Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, assembly and large-format fabrication capabilities.

Boeing commits to expand Charleston County operations

Boeing (NYSE:BA) today announced it plans to expand its operations in Charleston County. The company plans to invest $1 billion in infrastructure upgrades at its existing site and create 500 new jobs over the next five years.

For more than a decade, Boeing South Carolina (BSC) has been the home of the full 787 Dreamliner production cycle and fabricates, assembles and delivers the 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10 to customers globally. The company established operations in South Carolina in 2009 and currently employs more than 7,800 people across its Airport and North Campuses in North Charleston, and its West Campus in Orangeburg. Boeing acquired the operations in Orangeburg, located at 174 Millennium Drive, earlier this year, though those facilities will not be affected by the expansion plans.

Boeing will expand both of its North Charleston campuses, located at 5400 International Blvd. and 9775 Patriot Blvd., to support increased 787 Dreamliner production targets and potential future rate increases driven by market demand. The 787 Dreamliner program plans to increase to a rate of 10 airplanes per month by 2026.

Low Tide Brewing expands Charleston County operations

Low Tide Brewing, a craft beer manufacturer, today announced it is expanding its operations in Charleston County. The company’s $22.2 million investment will create 33 new jobs.

Founded on Johns Island in 2016, Low Tide Brewing produces award-winning craft beers from quality ingredients. The company’s brewery and taproom also offer a variety of one-of-a-kind experiences for the community.

Low Tide Brewing will expand into a 26,800-square-foot facility, located at 0 Beer Garden Way on Johns Island, which will include a state-of-the-art brewing system and event space. The new facility will expand the company’s manufacturing operations to meet demand for its wholesale products and increase capacity for visitors.

Smithey Ironware Company expands Charleston County operations

Smithey Ironware Company (Smithey), a cookware designer and manufacturer, today announced the expansion of its operations in Charleston County. The company’s $3.1 million investment will create 16 new jobs.

Founded in Charleston in 2015, Smithey designs, markets, and manufactures premium cast iron and carbon steel cookware. The company offers a full range of industry-leading, American-made skillets, roasters, Dutch ovens and more.

Smithey recently expanded into a new headquarters, located at 1061 Everglades Ave. in North Charleston, which houses administration teams and includes a public showroom. The company also opened a new distribution warehouse, located at 2060 North Hobson Ave. in North Charleston, to support expanded fulfillment operations and higher production volumes. The new distribution facility will be home to Smithey’s expanded custom engraving operations, allowing customers to add personalized messages to their cast iron and carbon steel cookware.

East Coast Warehouse & Distribution selects Charleston County to establish first South Carolina operation

East Coast Warehouse & Distribution, a leading temperature-controlled logistics provider, today announced it selects Charleston County to establish the company’s first South Carolina operation. The $14.5 million investment will create 52 new jobs.

With 70 years of experience, East Coast Warehouse & Distribution offers a comprehensive approach to third-party logistics services for the food and beverage industry. The company currently operates strategically placed facilities along the East Coast near the ports of New York and New Jersey, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Savannah.

The new East Coast Warehouse & Distribution operation will be part of North Charleston’s Shipyard Creek Logistics Center located at 2015 Tellico Road, 1.5 miles from the entrance of the SC Ports Hugh K. Leatherman Sr. Terminal. The new facility is comprised of 259,000 square feet of warehousing space on 17.6 acres of land, with an additional nine acres for parking and storing 350 trailers and containers. The temperature-controlled facility will be dedicated to public refrigerated warehousing solutions and will also serve as a base for the company’s Safeway Trucking operation.

Shipyard Creek Logistics Center opens in Charleston County at Leatherman Terminal

Capital Development Partners announces the opening of Shipyard Creek Logistics Center, featuring a 160,250-square-foot transload facility on 42 acres adjacent to the SC Ports Hugh K. Leatherman Sr. Terminal in North Charleston. The facility will be ready for operations in the fall of 2024.

This state-of-the-art facility is unmatched on the East Coast, with supporting infrastructure including direct access to Interstate 26 and a massive dual rail facility. The high-velocity, low-cost transportation capability is unparalleled, enabling a high volume of fast imports and exports at a lower cost to U.S. consumers.

Additionally, Capital Development Partners is developing a 259,200-square-foot, 27-acre US government inspection facility and warehouse for a distribution company at Shipyard Creek Logistics Center. The facility will deliver in the fall of 2025.

The 135-acre site is located on the newly developed Sewanee Road in North Charleston, adjacent to the SC Ports’ Leatherman Terminal in the heart of the Charleston port market.
